ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ I got a call to come in and meet Fox, and the rest is history. The customs and fashions of men change like leaves on the bough, some of which go and others come. Waiting for the spark from heaven to fall. It takes most men five years to recover from a college education, and to learn that poetry is as vital to thinking as knowledge. I was telling the truth. I feel like we got that point across. Spontaneity is such an entertaining facet of show business. Glamour cannot exist without personal social envy being a common and widespread emotion. And once I know what the first page is, then the rest will come. The real passion of the twentieth century is servitude. Experience is a dim lamp, which only lights the one who bears it. You know Manchester is always a bit of a hard place for people coming from London, just with all the history. Manchester has this immensely huge and healthy history musically. You cannot always control what goes on outside. But you can always control what goes on inside. The most fun I ever have is sitting in with Rick writing, and we laugh at our own jokes. We improve ourselves by victories over ourselves. There must be contest, and we must win. To have a great man for a friend seems pleasant to those who have never tried it; those who have, fear it. It is better to be the widow of a hero than the wife of a coward. I get called an adrenaline junkie every other minute, and I'm just fine with that. People commonly travel the world over to see rivers and mountains, new stars, garish birds, freak fish, grotesque breeds of human; they fall into an animal stupor that gapes at existence and they think they have seen something. Movies are an art form that is very available to the masses. Whoever would have guessed that in the land of cheap sausages and mashed potatoes there could be such a change which would actually bring the French from Paris every weekend to invade Britain en masse to eat great food and drink great wine. I think if you look at Andre then and now, you look at two different models. Of course it's personal preference, I think Andre now is a great role model for the kids. He has started training differently than he was before, and so on and so on. But when I went to Hiroshima and began to study or just listen to people's descriptions of their work, it was quite clear they were talking about death all the time, about people dying all around them, about their own fear of death. And I said, yes, if you think that I avoid bloodshed by standing aside, then I will stand aside. So they ended up turning this little twenty eight page book into the movie. And it's all about this stinky, smelly ogre who doesn't care what anybody thinks of him. It is one thing to own a woman, and it is another to have her within the bonds of an excellent mastery. In examining the potential of individuals, we must focus on their strengths and not just their mistakes. We cannot be limited by what they may have spilled in the kitchen. That peace which is within us, we must experience it. And if we are searching for peace outside we will never find the peace within. I have often wondered what it is an old building can do to you when you happen to know a little about things that went on long ago in that building. People are surprised to find out that an awful lot of people think that they're idiots. Man cannot influence in this respect the atomic forces of Nature. There is no real reality to a really imagined life any more. I read numerous books - loads in fact - and, as I always do when recording a historical project, immersed myself into the subject matter. I spent many hours at Henry's old homes, such as Hampton Court, and visiting the Tower of London. I read no other books during that period. Without obsession, life is nothing. I like to think I play rugby as it should be played - there are no yellow or red cards in my collection - but I cannot say I'm an angel. A star for every State, and a State for every star. |
Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.
- Sophocles
