Being branded number one restaurant in the world is actually very humbling. Some people never go crazy, What truly horrible lives they must live. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. There comes a point when a dream becomes reality and reality becomes a dream. And I'd be lying if I told you that as a black man in baseball I hadn't gone through worse times than my teammates. Until we perceive the meaning of our past, we remain the mere carriers of ideas, like the Nomads. It is harder to conceal ignorance than to acquire knowledge. I'll do a little prayer here and there if I feel the need to. I studied German at school. I lived in Berlin for two years and had a German girlfriend for five years, so I don't find speaking German particularly difficult. Singing was slightly more difficult. Accuracy is the twin brother of honesty; inaccuracy, of dishonesty. Nothing is so common-place as to wish to be remarkable. Heroes to me are guys that sit in libraries. They absorb knowledge and then the risks they take are calculated on the basis of the courage it took to become replete with knowledge. There's nothing masculine about being competitive. There's nothing masculine about trying to be the best at everything you do, nor is there anything wrong with it. I don't know why a female athlete has to defend her femininity just because she chooses to play sports. They were, I doubt not, happy enough in their dark stalls, because they were horses, and had plenty to eat; and I was at times quite happy enough in the dark loft, because I was a man, and could think and imagine. Seems like most of the kids today are into other sports other than tennis. I'm from the Bob Wills and the Little Richard school of music. Bob Wills did what the hell he thought, Little Richard did what he thought, and those were my big influences. I always say that as a Christian I cannot find any passage in the Gospels in which Jesus condemned homosexuality. The most important part of education is proper training in the nursery. The thing is, if you control the Senate meetings, you control the gavel. And the gavel is a very important instrument... an instrument of power. An instrument that establishes the agenda. That being said, I often write into recipes techniques I learned in the restaurant kitchen. There are ways of organizing your prep and so on that are immensely useful. Those are woven into all the recipes I do. It is a clear gain to sacrifice pleasure in order to avoid pain. Language is the soul of intellect, and reading is the essential process by which that intellect is cultivated beyond the commonplace experiences of everyday life. This record has a lot of influences that I'd love to cover, like Marvin Gaye and Earth, Wind and Fire. Maybe I'll do some covers of my major influences during my live show. Our view is that economic isolationism is the wrong way to go. Vibrant, successful growing economies that advance the interests of their citizens engage the global economy. And, we're committed to engaging the global economy. Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom. A lot of my audience are in their 50s. But they want me to pretend to continue to be pretending. It is by the goodness of God that in our country we have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them. Both of our daughters, Debbie and Bonnie, are also cancer survivors.
