ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ I married beneath me, all women do. The kind of music or the kind of arrangements that I do, the kind of musicians I choose, is just what I like to hear. The songs of Bizet are by a French peer of Rossini. When Rossini stopped composing, he was living in Paris. He also wrote some beautiful songs in French. Most families need both parents to work. Moms need to be able to work and earn fair pay and have the flexibility in their jobs to also be primary caretakers. Since January 2002, when the United States began detaining at Guantanamo Bay enemy combatants captured in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other fronts in the war on terror, critics have complained of human rights abuses. It's a huge challenge, a huge responsibility. Bond is a huge iconic figure in movie history. These opportunities don't come along very often so I thought, 'Why not?' The Olympics are coming... and it's a big problem in American politics, because the problem with holding the Olympics this fall is that we're all going to be focused on the Olympics, and it makes that window of opportunity for Gore to win the election that much smaller. I became a writer in spite of my environments. In a very complex way, things have improved in the dramatic field. Before you had the good and the bad and you couldn't mingle them. Now it's more ambiguous. When I accept a role, I feel that as an artist I have to submit completely to the tutelage of my director. And while I expect to be heard and encouraged and honored, at the end of the day, man, it's the way the director wants it. What are friends? Some people are nice. Some people aren't. There are some I'm fairly close with... we talk. The American foreign policy trauma of the sixties and seventies was caused by applying valid principles to unsuitable conditions. Maybe they continued to agree with Archie Bunker - as I said earlier, you can't change people's minds, but you can get them to think. Even a secret agent can't lie to a Jewish mother. One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. Where I once constantly lost my temper, I found myself arriving at a crisis and experiencing peace. I had one year of struggle. My parents were always there, but I didn't want to rely on them. Now it's moving pretty fast. I'm not rich, but obviously this is fantastic. All I know to do with money is put it in a shoebox anyway. In my old age I've come to find that if you respect other people, you feel better about yourself. This City is what it is because our citizens are what they are. After the last two years of springtime gas price spikes, nearly everyone in Southeast Wisconsin understands that something is wrong with our gasoline regulation and supply system. But Gulf War Syndrome is not one cause, not one illness. It is many causes, many illnesses. It's not as if there's a noise problem, because they use the same circuits as Formula One. My aim then was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. I became alienated from this religious upbringing, and started making music. I wanted to be a big star. All those things I saw in the films and on the media took hold of me, and perhaps I thought this was my god: the goal of making money. Every emancipation has in it the seeds of a new slavery, and every truth easily becomes a lie. The big print giveth and the small print taketh away. In known history, nobody has had such capacity for altering the universe than the people of the United States of America. And nobody has gone about it in such an aggressive way. |
Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.
- Sophocles
Amy LowellA man must be sacrificed now and again to provide for the next generation of men. All books are either dreams or swords, you can cut, or you can drug, with words. Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in. For books are more than books, they are the life, the very heart and core of ages past, the reason why men worked and died, the essence and quintessence of their lives. Happiness, to some, elation; Is, to others, mere stagnation. Hate is ravening vulture beaks descending on a place of skulls. I am tired, beloved, of chafing my heart against the want of you; of squeezing it into little ink drops, and posting it. And I scald alone, here, under the fire of the great moon. In science, read by preference the newest works. In literature, read the oldest. The classics are always modern. Let us be of cheer, remembering that the misfortunes hardest to bear are those which never come. Moon! Moon! I am prone before you. Pity me, and drench me in loneliness. |
