You know, I think I'm a stronger person for realizing that you can't make everybody love you. I was completely nuts for most of my life. Politics is the art of the possible. At many points during our nation's history, there have been times - known in our history textbooks as "panics" - when adverse conditions affecting the financial and economic sectors of the country have caused individuals to hoard more than they need. Reading is my greatest luxury. The true definition of a snob is one who craves for what separates men rather than for what unites them. Our very strength as lesbians lies in the fact that we are outside of patriarchy; our existence challenges its life. I'm simply an accident. Why take it all so seriously? The resolution has made a real threat of war go away and opens the way for further work in the interests of a political- diplomatic settlement of the situation around Iraq. Praise is warming and desirable. But it is an earned thing. It has to be deserved, like a hug from a child. As a civilian during the Second War, I was exposed to danger in circumstances which removed any distinction between the man in and the man out of uniform. The job at Brooklyn is interesting because Brooklyn reflects what happened to university art departments everywhere. It might be the worst department now, and yet at one point it was the best in the country. My feeling is that when you're managing a baseball team, you have to pick the right people to play and then pray a lot. I feel that L.A. has not always been my strongest base for support. I know how it feels to be a woman because I am a woman. And I won't be classified as just a man. He is a hard man who is only just, and a sad one who is only wise. In my time and neighborhood (and in my soul) there was only one standard by which a woman measured success: did some man want her? An enormous part of our mature experience cannot not be expressed in words.
