First thoughts are not always the best. The privilege of ruling would be in the hands of the skilled and the learned, with a wide scope left for profitable crooked deals carried on by the Jews, who would be attracted by the enormous extension of the international speculations of the national banks. I think I was more or less, convinced of that by just the press, the US press. By people who were pressuring you, saying that you gotta beat the Russian's, if you don't win anything else, win the Russian meet and so forth. What has happened at Guantanamo Bay... does not represent the will of the American people. I'm embarrassed about it, I think its wrong. I think it does give terrorists an unwarranted excuse to use the despicable means to hurt innocent people. Most books today seemed to have been written overnight from books read the day before. Unlike the actual, the fictional explains itself. No one can remember more than three points. If someone were to think that trees are made to support the sky, they would all seem too short. I am not liked as a President by the politicians in office, in the press, or in Congress. But I am content to abide the judgment the sober second thought of the people. I would not be gotten into a schoolhouse until I was eight years old. Nor did I accomplish much after I started. I doubt if I had gone to school six months in all when my father died. I was fourteen at the time. Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task. Not all the coal that is dug warms the world. We are a people in a quandary about the present. We are a people in search of our future. We are a people in search of a national community. I once hit Quentin on the head with my ball and chain. As anyone who is gay will confirm, being that way is not something you become, it is a set of emotional and physical responses that just are. Happiness exists on earth, and it is won through prudent exercise of reason, knowledge of the harmony of the universe, and constant practice of generosity. Everybody gets to a stage when it's time to move on. I was bored, and the band wasn't going anywhere, so I left. I did a couple of shows on Broadway and some other things. I was busy. I just wasn't making records. Time flies. It's up to you to be the navigator. I think people forget that to be on the A list you first had to go through the original graded Parliamentary Selection Board. I did that and then like everyone else had the further interviews to get onto the A list. Many filmmakers pretend that they never see anything, which has always seemed odd to me. At least I'm going into the job with clean hands. It's a very sobering feeling to be up in space and realize that one's safety factor was determined by the lowest bidder on a government contract. The ingredients of health and long life, are great temperance, open air, easy labor, and little care. I think that men know how to romance a woman and most do it well, at least for a time, otherwise women wouldn't marry them. The problem is that most of them begin to rest on their laurels. The house itself is of minor importance. Its relation to the community is the thing that really counts. And when things are not going well in Toronto, you're going to hear about it. And you're going to say things are not good at all, where it's really not that bad. I am honored to be able to serve GM at this critical juncture and take part in its reinvention.
