ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ It is best to rise from life as from a banquet, neither thirsty nor drunken. In general, every country has the language it deserves. What is interesting about self-analysis is that it leads nowhere - it is an art form in itself. It's funny how social activists usually protest against the only things that have a credible chance of achieving the activists' goals. What we really want to do is what we are really meant to do. When we do what we are meant to do, money comes to us, doors open for us, we feel useful, and the work we do feels like play to us. A warrior is free to be a hero and pull off daring do and the soldier is irresponsible if he does it. I've taken my knickers off. My friends told me my panty line was visible, so I went without. To kill an error is as good a service as, and sometimes even better than, the establishing of a new truth or fact. Dan Curtis, our producer, has the idea that people like to see a stock company of actors. Creation is a drug I can't do without. One must not attempt to justify them, but rather to sense their nature simply and clearly. Fools may our scorn, not envy, raise. For envy is a kind of praise. I would love to be like a Brian McKnight. Shoot, I'd love to be Brian McKnight. I told my mother at about the seventh year of therapy that I had been abused sexually by my father, and she hung up the phone on me. Women are called upon to defend every bit of progress we have made against particularly virulent attack. But we must also hold out a vision, put forth a positive agenda of what women need and want and then move forward toward that dream. Kindness in women, not their beauteous looks, shall win my love. Somebody asked me about the current choice we're being given in the presidential election. I said, Well, it's like two of the scariest movies I can imagine. I adore dancing. It is utterly false and cruelly arbitrary to put all the play and learning into childhood, all the work into middle age, and all the regrets into old age. I am still learning. I reject the cynical view that politics is a dirty business. Socialism is simply Communism for people without the testosterone to man the barricades. It takes a long time to become young. To me, freedom entitles you to do something, not to not do something. I don't think the public is dying to see me necessarily be funny all the time. Nobody needs to prove to anybody what they're worthy of, just the person that they look at in the mirror. That's the only person you need to answer to. The time is coming when the pressure of population on the means of subsistence will be felt here as it is now felt in Europe and Asia. Then will the world enter upon a new stage of its history - the final competition of races, for which the Anglo-Saxon is being schooled. Depth of friendship does not depend on length of acquaintance. I'd come out of the army after five years as a medic. I was a medical administrator and we ran hospitals, and I was a Captain in the army at the end, in 1945. If you don't think too good, don't think too much. I was never able to get through Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. I've never been able to make it through. And I love the Smashing Pumpkins, they're one of my favorite bands ever, but I've never been able to listen to the whole thing all the way through. |
Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.
- Sophocles
David Herbert LawrenceA man has no religion who has not slowly and painfully gathered one together, adding to it, shaping it; and one's religion is never complete and final, it seems, but must always be undergoing modification. All that we know is nothing, we are merely crammed wastepaper baskets, unless we are in touch with that which laughs at all our knowing. All vital truth contains the memory of all that for which it is not true. Be a good animal, true to your animal instincts. Be still when you have nothing to say; when genuine passion moves you, say what you've got to say, and say it hot. But better die than live mechanically a life that is a repetition of repetitions. California is a queer place in a way, it has turned its back on the world, and looks into the void Pacific. It is absolutely selfish, very empty, but not false, and at least, not full of false effort. Consciousness is an end in itself. We torture ourselves getting somewhere, and when we get there it is nowhere, for there is nowhere to get to. Creation destroys as it goes, throws down one tree for the rise of another. But ideal mankind would abolish death, multiply itself million upon million, rear up city upon city, save every parasite alive, until the accumulation of mere existence is swollen to a horror. Death is the only pure, beautiful conclusion of a great passion. |
