ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ A psychiatrist asks a lot of expensive questions your wife asks for nothing. Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. You are a pest, by the very nature of that camera in your hand. Basically no, I mean I think that it's very easy to like I say, smoke a joint or even to wear a Chairman Mao button, or do a lot of these things with out knowing what's behind it, and what it really means. I didn't know a damn thing about style. Mad, adj. Affected with a high degree of intellectual independence. A terrorist is someone who has a bomb, but doesn't have an air force. If children were brought up to become non-conformists it would only ruin their lives. So parents all over China who loved their children told them to do as Chairman Mao said. It was not possible to tell them anything else. I'm still amazed by the process of recording. I think that being a producer is business and being an actor is art. I don't play pyrotechnic scales. I play about frustration, patience, anger. Music is an extension of my soul. The media only wants to get the view of the flaming radicals because they make better copy than those of us who are more sensible. I'm a feminist and I think I've done a lot of good. I try to keep an open mind but I'm so tired of the mediocrity. My point here is I think international pressures of our acting unilaterally again are going to be such that the administration will say, well, we just can't take this on now. There's a lot of whiners in every crowd. This is one of the hardest industries to be married. But certainly the laser proved to be what I realized it was going to be. At that moment in my life I was too ignorant in business law to be able to do it right, and if I did it over again probably the same damn thing would happen. I've goten to work with some great people. I've been really lucky. When a man says he had pleasure with a woman he does not mean conversation. Schools must stop being holding pens to keep energetic young people off the job market and off the streets. We stretch puberty out a long, long time. And the whole world, the whole world that believes in freedom, whether you're talking about personal freedom, economic freedom, religious freedom, they look to the United States for leadership; and you're part of that leadership. Myths which are believed in tend to become true. We say that we care about the war, but we don't even really know what we're fighting for. I make the kind of music I like. Being a Southern person and a blonde, it's not a good combination. Immediately, when people meet you, they think of you as not being smart. Age becomes reality when you hear someone refer to that attractive young woman standing next to the woman in the green dress, and you find that you're the one in the green dress. The split second she ceases to care is the only time a woman ceases to be attractive. |

Dee HockAn illustration I use to get people to understand it is this: I'll ask major corporate audiences: Why don't you just take all your traditional beliefs about organizations, and apply them to the neurons in your brain? - Dee Hock An organization, no matter how well designed, is only as good as the people who live and work in it. - Dee Hock As I like to say, the entire collective memory of the species - that means all known and recorded information - is going to be just a few keystrokes away in a matter of years. - Dee Hock Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it. - Dee Hock Every mind is a room packed with archaic furniture. - Dee Hock Experience is easy to provide and quickly put to good use by people with all the other qualities. - Dee Hock If you don't understand that you work for your mislabeled 'subordinates,' then you know nothing of leadership. You know only tyranny. - Dee Hock If you go back to the first single-cell form of life, it clearly possessed the capacity to receive, to utilize, to store, to transform, and to transmit information. - Dee Hock If you look to lead, invest at least 40% of your time managing yourself - your ethics, character, principles, purpose, motivation, and conduct. Invest at least 30% managing those with authority over you, and 15% managing your peers. - Dee Hock If you're in such a position of power and your ego is such that this is not possible, then its essential to have a small cadre of very bright, committed people who are questioning, exploring and understanding these emerging concepts. - Dee Hock |
Dee Ward Hock is the founder and former CEO of the VISA credit card association. In 1968 Hock convinced Bank of America to give up ownership and control of their BankAmericard credit card program. The new company, called National BankAmerica, was a non-stock membership corporation equally owned by its member banks. The name was changed to VISA in 1976. ...read more. |
