It is not so for art in appreciation because art is concerned with human behavior. And science is concerned with the behavior of metal or energy. It depends on what the fashion is. Now today it's energy. It's the same soul behind it. The same soul, you see. Leisure time is that five or six hours when you sleep at night. Painting is the passage from the chaos of the emotions to the order of the possible. Conflict is not inevitable, but disarmament is... everyone now accepts that if there is a default by Saddam the international community must act to enforce its will. Actors should be overheard, not listened to, and the audience is 50 percent of the performance. It used to be that you came out of school, and you got married - those who were going to get married. But my peers are getting married in their early 30s, so now there's like this extra 10 years of that angst. I think what we've learned is that the terrorist threat is serious, but it shifts. You cannot make a single person the sole focus of your counterterrorism. I live on my gut instinct. We were told this war would be over in a matter of weeks, and that the Iraqis would be able to finance it with oil sales. We were promised it was not a mission of nation building. You will never find time for anything. If you want time you must make it. I see badly, I hear badly, and I feel bad, but everything's fine. My definition of an intellectual is someone who can listen to the William Tell Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger. Slums may well be breeding grounds of crime, but middle class suburbs are incubators of apathy and delirium. Falsehood is invariably the child of fear in one form or another. Struggle is strengthening. Battling with evil gives us the power to battle evil even more. I'm still grappling with all the things most people resolve by the time they're 35. Maybe that's why I make music that is relevant to young people. I'm emotionally stuck at the age of 13. After about 20 years of marriage, I'm finally starting to scratch the surface of what women want. And I think the answer lies somewhere between conversation and chocolate. I could not understand how it could move under its own power. And when it had driven past me, without even thinking why I found myself chasing it down the road, as hard as I could run. Politics is like football; if you see daylight, go through the hole. By the time I was 12 or 13, I was studying biochemistry textbooks. Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream. I came from a small town and at school in one class there was me, a member from Depeche Mode and someone who went on to join The Cure. That was all in one class of 30 kids. The politician in my country seeks votes, affection and respect, in that order. With few notable exceptions, they are simply men who want to be loved. I wanted to be a doctor when I was young. I also wanted to be a paramedic, but I always wanted to be an actor as well. I didn't have kids or something that I needed to provide for. Incidentally, the usual designation of the magnitude scale to my name does less than justice to the great part that Dr. Gutenberg played in extending the scale to apply to earthquakes in all parts of the world. It isn't what we don't know that gives us trouble, it's what we know that ain't so. The Town Clerkship, however, was the means of giving me a lesson in electoral methods. All the time a person is a child he is both a child and learning to be a parent. After he becomes a parent he becomes predominantly a parent reliving childhood. Politics is in my blood. I'd love to be involved in 2008, maybe even '06. My vanity is not dead. I laugh when I see pictures of myself as I am now-maybe so I won't cry, but just because it is really funny how much I've changed.

Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.

Later, I could take something off my slider and I could make my fastball sink, so I really had four pitches.

Sooner or later you learn that you belong in the big leagues, and that makes you calm down.

That first year in Chicago was one of the most memorable in my career. Getting traded rejuvenated me, and I had something to prove. I wanted to show them what I could do.

The thing that got me over the hump was accepting that I had to do whatever I could to stay in the game.

Then you figure out that if you don't throw it as hard as you can, you can put it where you want. It's more important where you put it.

They developed a platform for me to put up another 12 years, and that was my ticket to Cooperstown. Those were the best years of my life. It was like magic.

Tony knew me both as an athlete and as a person. He cared for me like a father.
