ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Love is the power to see similarity in the dissimilar. King Arthur was one of my heroes - I played with a trash can lid for a knightly shield and my uncle's cane for the sword Excalibur. The way to kill a man or a nation is to cut off his dreams, the way the whites are taking care of the Indians: killing their dreams, their magic, their familiar spirits. When I was younger it was twice a day with a game on the weekend. Then when I got older, three times a day everyday in college and on the national team. Michael Anthony is the Diplomat of Rock N Roll. He is the regular guy. If you're in a forest, the quality of the echo is very strange because echoes back off so many surfaces of all those trees that you get this strange, itchy ricochet effect. He who allows oppression shares the crime. I had hope, however; I had been wounded seven times during the war, and once before in this same lung; and I did not believe I was going to die. It's a bomb. I've already called law enforcement. Let's get out of here. We were sweet, lovely people who wanted to throw out all the staid institutions who placed money and wars above all else. When you're young you think that's how life works. I have grown in my writing and I care about it now and I know how important it is to write stuff. The hall-mark of American humour is its pose of illiteracy. We need someone who is a strong representative of our value system. I can remember sittin' in a cafe when I first started in rodeo, and waitin' until somebody got done so I could finish what they left. Unionization, as opposed to communism, presupposes the relation of employment; it is based upon the wage system and it recognizes fully and unreservedly the institution of private property and the right to investment profit. Workers have kept faith in American institutions. Most of the conflicts, which have occurred have been when labor's right to live has been challenged and denied. A woman brought her child with an abscess in the lower part of the back, and offered as much corn as she could carry for some medicine; we administered to it of course very cheerfully. Advertising is a valuable economic factor because it is the cheapest way of selling goods, particularly if the goods are worthless. War puts its questions stupidly, peace mysteriously. I won't be a rock star. I will be a legend. Let's face it, 80 percent of the work I do my kids can't see. Now, being a science fiction writer, when I see a natural principle, I wonder if it could fail. Multi-tasking arises out of distraction itself. But I've got more to learn, too. I don't feel like I'm done or I know it all. It seems like when I first started, people got into comedy because they wanted to be good comedians. The whole secret of life is to be interested in one thing profoundly and in a thousand things well. I never thought of it as God. I didn't know what to call it. I don't believe in devils, but demons I do because everyone at one time or another has some kind of a demon, even if you call it by another name, that drives them. I will have an administrative system where there is no way to extricate red tape. Designs in connection with postage stamps and coinage may be described, I think, as the silent ambassadors on national taste. What we have to do now is to make the public at large aware that what we're looking at is not a historical event but - and I have to be brutal and I am going to say it - a racket. |
Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.
- Sophocles
Dennis EckersleyBut more important than personal awards is winning the World Series. That's the max that anyone could ask for. Let alone to have the ball in your in your glove for the final out of the World Series. That was the ultimate. But through experience I learned to control my body and locate the ball. I also think that I had great mechanics. I always had the attitude that I wanted to throw a no-hitter every game. I can't recall too much about pitching, but I do remember that I was anxious to get it over with. I just wanted to get that first game over with and go from there. I had never been to the playoffs, and it was exciting. The fans went through the roof. They were excited about the whole team. It was great to be traded to a city like Chicago, which was a lot like Boston. I think today the players are too nice to one another, but that might change with the unbalanced schedule, with teams playing each other more and more. When you face each other that much, with that much at stake, something's bound to happen. I was a starter and did some good things there, and then I got a chance to prove myself as a closer. Because of that opportunity, I was blessed with the honor of being elected to the Hall of Fame. I was in good control of my body, and I kept my head still. I'm proud of the fact that I pitched almost 3,300 innings. |
Dennis Lee Eckersley , nicknamed "Eck," is a former American Major League Baseball player. Eckersley had success as a starter, but gained his greatest fame as a closer, becoming the first of only two pitchers in Major League history to have both a 20-win season and a 50-save season in a career . ...read more. |
