ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Anyway, that was the germ of the idea and of course... you know this was early days of sociology and whatever, especially on television. Because a thing seems difficult for you, do not think it impossible for anyone to accomplish. I know what sin is. You begin saving the world by saving one man at a time; all else is grandiose romanticism or politics. An Indian's dress of deer skins, which is wet a hundred times upon his back, dries soft; and his lodge also, which stands in the rains, and even through the severity of winter, is taken down as soft and as clean as when it was first put up. Iraq can emerge as a beacon of hope and democracy in the Middle East, and the world, with our help. Written by a sponge dipped in warm milk and sprinkled with sugar. The only thing is we didn't have the supporting cast. Spring and summer 1942 was probably the worst period of internal terror in Slovakia. It was also the time of mass deportation of Slovak Jews to the extermination camps in Poland. How can a coach have any influence over a player that's making over five times more than he is? David Ortiz is a genius. He's incredible to watch. Over and over, he hits home runs that are simply transcendent. It is always better to have no ideas than false ones; to believe nothing, than to believe what is wrong. I have been exposed to a great amount of temptation throughout the course of my career. I've grown so much since 1996. I think that was the turning point of when I started to go to church every Sunday and not just because you're supposed to. But because you enjoy going and listening to the Word and being excited about it. We are no more content to plod along the beaten paths - and so marriage must go the way of God. You had to pitch in and out. The zone didn't belong to the hitters; it belonged to the pitchers. Today, if you pitch too far inside, the umpire would stop you right there. I don't think it's fair. A prohibitionist is the sort of man one couldn't care to drink with, even if he drank. I think I'll be fine in New York. If I could stay here and just get jobs in New York, that would be fine and that's what I'd want to do. I don't want to move. I'm Kevin Nealon, and that's news to me. I was like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me. The staff, stage managers, ushers all behaved as if they respected the actors. Advertising is, actually, a simple phenomenon in terms of economics. It is merely a substitute for a personal sales force - an extension, if you will, of the merchant who cries aloud his wares. Humor is imperative, more important than food. You have a choice when someone dies. You can lie down or get back into life. Do something for someone else. When they call the roll in the Senate, the Senators do not know whether to answer "Present" or "Not guilty." An honest man is always a child. A dream is the bearer of a new possibility, the enlarged horizon, the great hope. Everything human is pathetic. The secret source of humor itself is not joy but sorrow. There is no humor in heaven. Don't ever let economic alone determine your career or how you spend the majority of your time. As the mother of two daughters, I have great respect for women. And I don't ever want to lose that. |
Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.
- Sophocles
E. O. WilsonA very Faustian choice is upon us: whether to accept our corrosive and risky behavior as the unavoidable price of population and economic growth, or to take stock of ourselves and search for a new environmental ethic. Blind faith, no matter how passionately expressed, will not suffice. Science for its part will test relentlessly every assumption about the human condition. By any reasonable measure of achievement, the faith of the Enlightenment thinkers in science was justified. Destroying rainforest for economic gain is like burning a Renaissance painting to cook a meal. Even as empiricism is winning the mind, transcendentalism continues to win the heart. Every major religion today is a winner in the Darwinian struggle waged among cultures, and none ever flourished by tolerating its rivals. If all mankind were to disappear, the world would regenerate back to the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten thousand years ago. If insects were to vanish, the environment would collapse into chaos. If history and science have taught us anything, it is that passion and desire are not the same as truth. If those committed to the quest fail, they will be forgiven. When lost, they will find another way. The moral imperative of humanism is the endeavor alone, whether successful or not, provided the effort is honorable and failure memorable. It's like having astronomy without knowing where the stars are. |
