ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ I have been coaching recently. I coached high school basketball in Arizona, and I hope that more opportunities become available. There was certainly less profanity in the Godfather than in the Sopranos. There was a kind of respect. It's not that I totally agreed with it, but it was a great piece of art. We did like 12 shows, then we did the entire Ozzfest with the first half completely booked; then we did the second half with a couple days off here and there. The incognito of lower class employment is an effective cloak for any dagger one might wish to hide. I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes. Standardization of our educational systems is apt to stamp out individualism and defeat the very ends of education by leveling the product down rather than up. There is no doubt that now, more than ever, we must work to end our dependence on foreign oil sources. But we cannot do so by ignoring the wishes of the coastal communities that oppose drilling. So then I started doing a lot of episodic TV, just car chases or helicopter chases or whatever. I just sit down at the piano and rattle it off. The fact is, beneath the hype, Iraqis will soon appreciate American help and idealism far more than French perfidy. It is never wrong to be on the side of freedom - never. Yes, I would have rather finished up in Pittsburgh. As long as you hate, there will be people to hate. It's not been a pleasant life. You know me... If you are Iraqi, you know me. In valley drift we meet commonly with the bones of quadrupeds which graze on plains bordering rivers. Ultimately, literature is nothing but carpentry. With both you are working with reality, a material just as hard as wood. There can be no argument about the Lone Star State's significant contributions to American history, and we must remember the actions and the sacrifices of those who made Texas independence a reality. Much has been said and continues to be said of what little concern the Turks had for the Acropolis treasures. I am rich beyond the dreams of avarice. I was definitely living fast. I was working, traveling a lot, playing. I didn't stop. It all became unbalanced. Science shows us what exists but not what to do about it. We eat, therefore we hunt. If man made himself the first object of study, he would see how incapable he is of going further. How can a part know the whole? As to gods, I have no way of knowing either that they exist or do not exist, or what they are like. In a band that works out well, everybody has a certain role to fulfill. Never bring the problem solving stage into the decision making stage. Otherwise, you surrender yourself to the problem rather than the solution. If we really love and cherish Taiwan, we should hold our hands in unity to protect our country and our democratic values with the most humble and tolerant hearts. Many have left their families to defend our freedom. We salute their bravery; we express our appreciation and support to their families. And we pray for their safe return. From warriors ravens grew red And with their leader a host attacked. Love is a canvas furnished by nature and embroidered by imagination. Men hate the individual whom they call avaricious only because nothing can be gained from him. The world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those who feel. Money isn't the most important thing in life, but it's reasonably close to oxygen on the "gotta have it" scale. |
Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.
- Sophocles
Ed SmithBefore Booker T. Washington, we have small business owners but we do not have a philosopher of black entrepreneurship, and that's what Washington was. - Ed Smith Even during my youth, I can recall very few black people living on any kind of public assistance. People were working, doing some kind of job that was useful to the community. - Ed Smith I can think of no one that my grandparents knew, that told me stories and that I experienced myself, had any sense of social inferiority growing up in segregated Washington. None whatsoever. - Ed Smith It seems every year, people make the resolution to exercise and lose weight and get in shape. - Ed Smith Many of the master chefs in the South, both the upper South as well as the deep South, were blacks and many of those people came here to Washington, D.C., and opened up establishments. Very, very few of them have survived. But they certainly were very prominent. - Ed Smith One of the prices that we pay for integration was the disintegration of the black community. - Ed Smith People should have the choice to be able to live where they want to live, go to school where they want to go to school, marry whoever they want to marry regardless of what their complexion is and so forth. - Ed Smith Segregation was a burden for many blacks, because the end of the civil war and the amendments added to the constitution elevated expectations beyond reality in some respects. - Ed Smith So I'm a young boy in the 1940s growing up, seeing Ralph Bunche on a regular basis, seeing Duke Ellington on a regular basis. We know that these people are famous. They're living in the same community as we live in. They go to the same stores and shops. - Ed Smith The black community now in many ways divided itself the way the larger white community divides itself, over class issues. And that race is no longer the bond that it once was. That's one of the prices you pay for progress. - Ed Smith |
