ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Neither science, nor the politics in power, nor the mass media, nor business, nor the law nor even the military are in a position to define or control risks rationally. There are so few strong roles for women, especially young women. And Veronica is very serious but also very likable. She's a lone wolf, and it appeals to people that she isn't rich and doesn't have a lot of friends. No posse. She's just like you, like most of us. I am one of the most idiosyncratic people around. I'm not a lawyer, and maybe I should have used more specific legal language. I could draw Bloom County with my nose and pay my cleaning lady to write it, and I'd bet I wouldn't lose 10% of my papers over the next twenty years. Such is the nature of comic-strips. Once established, their half-life is usually more than nuclear waste. We were astonished by the beauty and refinement of the art displayed by the objects surpassing all we could have imagined - the impression was overwhelming. The crowd makes the ballgame. When I start a movie, the first day, I feel like a duck. The oil can is mightier than the sword. The aging and decreasing population is a serious problem in many developed countries today. In Japan's case, these demographic changes are taking place at a more rapid pace than any other country has ever experienced. The garden, by design, is concerned with both the interior and the land beyond the garden. To see my wife getting inspired from my notes and thoughts, going in the direction I wanted, and have her surprise me with wonderful choices was a real treat. My parents are older, and they lead a somewhat sheltered life. It was difficult to talk with them about things that were embarrassing to me, and that I had never spoken to them about. He did once say the time to worry is when they stop writing about you but again I think that was pretty token of the coverage was very respectful, he rather resented the intrusions on his private life, but that was about it. I don't think I'm very ambitious at all. But I seem to play people who have that quality. The most important thing is to stay positive. Oscar Wilde said the rich and the poor are equal - they can both sleep under the bridge. Right? Do they have a right? You're damn right they have a right! Even now it is no longer composed of the traditional political class, but of a composite layer of corporate leaders, high-level administrators, and the heads of the major professional, labor, political, and religious organisations. Bill Bradley is a serious politician and if Al Gore stumbles seriously, then Bradley is there to take advantage of that. You glance at an e-mail. You give more attention to a real letter. I was taught that pain is bad. Skepticism is an important historical tool. It is the starting point of all revision of hitherto accepted history. I guess the painkillers wipe out your memory along with your ethics. There are situations which cannot honorably be met by art. I was never the girl next door. Of course, Einstein was a very great scientist indeed, and I have enormous respect for him, and great admiration for the discoveries he made. But he was very committed to a view of the objectivity of the physical world. The importance of information is directly proportional to its improbability. Socialism values equality more than liberty. For love is a willful stirring of our thoughts unto God, so that it receive nothing that is against the love of Jesus Christ, and therewith that it be lasting in sweetness of devotion; and that is the perfection of this life. An emotional man may possess no humor, but a humorous man usually has deep pockets of emotion, sometimes tucked away or forgotten. On the other hand, if the free world is concerned with how a new Palestinian leader governs, then the peace process will have a real chance to succeed. Kids now are so used to surround sound and the power in theater speakers, that the concert hall is a disappointment to them. At an expense trifling indeed, compared to what she frequently spends upon unprofitable contests, she might place the moral world on a new foundation, and to rise the pinnacle of moral glory. I will not attempt to deny the reasonableness and necessity of a party war; but in carrying on that war all principles and rules of justice should not be departed from. Our company is working with Disney to create a game for children between the ages of maybe four and 12, so we can teach them what the capitalist system is all about. |
Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.
- Sophocles
Frank LuntzA compelling story, even if factually inaccurate, can be more emotionally compelling than a dry recitation of the truth. Eighty percent of our life is emotion, and only 20 percent is intellect. I am much more interested in how you feel than how you think. I can change how you think, but how you feel is something deeper and stronger, and it's something that's inside you. How I say it has as much of an impact on what people think of me as what I say. I don't understand why people whose entire lives or their corporate success depends on communication, and yet they are led on occasion by CEOs who cannot talk their way out of a paper bag and don't care to. I have seen how effective language attached to policies that are mainstream and delivered by people who are passionate and effective can change the course of history. I've done reasonably well over the last 10 years because I took the strategy of language and politics and applied it to the corporate world, which has never been done before. Ideology and communication more often than not run into each other rather than complement each other. Principle and communication work together. Ideology and communication often work apart. If you're a good numbers person, you're a bad language person. In fact, in more cases than not, when we are rational, we're actually unhappy. Emotion is good; passion is good. Being into what we're into, provided that it's a healthy pursuit, it's a good thing. It is acceptable to bring someone to tears if it explains to them in an emotional way why a product, a service, or a candidate is the right person, is the right thing to do. |
