I'm not constrained by being a genre writer. Any story I can imagine, I can cast as a fantasy novel and probably get it published. The big difference is the size of the crew and the flexibility of shooting because of the size. I mean, it's crazy. So you can't improvise, you cannot suddenly do something that comes to mind, whereas in a small production you have much more flexibility. Political and social events must also be effective, but not in a very obvious fashion. But political confusion and prolonged peace undoubtedly affect creative thought but whether they respectively hinder or help it is not at all certain. Despite a large body of work in films, TV, theatre and concerts, I am viewed by many as a Jewish artist. I do not resent the label, except for the fact that I disapprove of labels in general. What we call a poem is mostly what is not there on the page. The strength of any poem is the poems that it has managed to exclude. I know you've heard it a thousand times before. But it's true - hard work pays off. If you want to be good, you have to practice, practice, practice. If you don't love something, then don't do it. When the courts decide that murderers, rapists, and others who maliciously break our social contract deserve health care that most working Americans can't afford, they are condemning good people to death. It is, perhaps, better to be valued as an object of passion than never to be valued at all. I don't pretend we have all the answers. But the questions are certainly worth thinking about. What I would love to do, more than anything, is just anthologies. With an anthology you can tell any story and be in every division of television. We don't have any anthologies anymore, do we? Being in a band you can wear whatever you want - it's like an excuse for halloween everyday. The good writing of any age has always been the product of someone's neurosis. It's frustrating actually, the time involved in getting something released these days. My new CD has actually been finished for a year. It's only now that it's being released. I'm curious about everything. Even subjects that don't interest me. My philosophy has always been, "do what you love and the money will follow."
