To bear with patience wrongs done to oneself is a mark of perfection, but to bear with patience wrongs done to someone else is a mark of imperfection and even of actual sin. So, I think the output of our innovation is great. We have a culture of self-improvement. I know we can continue to improve. There is no issue. But at the same time, our absolute level of output is fantastic. I'd rather be strongly wrong than weakly right. I write about five thousand words a day, when working on a book, about three thousand a day if I'm writing a short story. I take long periods off between projects, when I read a lot, garden, and think about the next book or stories. The United States of America will never be intimidated by thugs and assassins. The killers will fail, and the Iraqi people will live in freedom. If this gesture was the way of getting out of the penitentiary, I'd do it. I'm not stopping. My dream has come true, and I'm staying. I always played to win. We are the nation the most powerful, the most armed and we are supplying arms and money to the rest of the world where we are not ourselves fighting. We are eating while there is famine in the world. I'm not sure I want all my neuroses cleared up. But even the President of the United States sometimes must have to stand naked. Also, I am very religious. It gave me peace of mind all my career. We don't want tradition. We want to live in the present and the only history that is worth a tinker's dam is the history we make today. The color of truth is gray. To go out with the setting sun on an empty beach is to truly embrace your solitude. In between that time, I've done book narrating, you know, books on tape for Dove Audio. If there are four equations and only three variables, and no one of the equations is derivable from the others by algebraic manipulation then there is another variable missing. A state arises, as I conceive, out of the needs of mankind; no one is self-sufficing, but all of us have many wants. I is another. Obedience of the law is demanded; not asked as a favor. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. My time inside there was very short compared to the amount of time it took to take on and take off this suit and to test me for how much radioactivity I have. Counting is the religion of this generation it is its hope and its salvation. The wicked leader is he who the people despise. The good leader is he who the people revere. The great leader is he who the people say, 'We did it ourselves.' To fight and conquer in all our battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting. Only the winners decide what were war crimes. We all recognize that in recent decades, many important achievements have helped create a cleaner, healthier environment, yet our national needs in environmental health are not being fully met.
