ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ The science of politics is the one science that is deposited by the streams of history, like the grains of gold in the sand of a river; and the knowledge of the past, the record of truths revealed by experience, is eminently practical, as an instrument of action and a power that goes to making the future. Government is not show business. So we should preserve it. I don't think that digital storage is necessarily a good thing, but I definitely think that digital manipulation is interesting. There are so many good authors; there's no shortage of them. No, I don't autograph blank slips, checks, or stickers, and certainly no books without me in them. When you have nothing to say, say nothing. I've always liked being relatively obscure. I feel that's where I belong, that's where my work belongs. We spend the first twelve months of our children's lives teaching them to walk and talk and the next twelve telling them to sit down and shut up. There are some liberals eager to embrace a culture void of morals, but the majority of America is made up of honest, hard-working families who turned out in droves to protect the traditional way of life. Together we must learn how to compose differences, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose. Avant-garde music is sort of research music. You're glad someone's done it but you don't necessarily want to listen to it. The artist likes to seem totally responsible for his work. Often he begins to explain it, to make it appear as if it were a reasonable process. Jealousy is the fear of comparison. Our society's strong emphasis on dieting and self-image can sometimes lead to eating disorders. We know that more than 5 million Americans suffer from eating disorders, most of them young women. The Shakespeare that Shakespeare became is the name that's attached to these astonishing objects that he left behind. E-mail is far more convenient than the telephone, as far as I'm concerned. I would throw my phone away if I could get away with it. If nobody said anything unless he knew what he was talking about, a ghastly hush would descend upon the earth. You only live a short time... and you are dead a long time. I think that's not a question that one can answer accurately. I read a whole range of books, quite a lot of history at the time, and still do read a lot. I read very widely. I was a drummer and I played the guitar. Actually, the Kentucky moment was better than winning the two National Championships, because it was the epitome of what I try to get from a team in a crisis situation. It's called political economy because it is has nothing to do with either politics or economy. This year, as we celebrate the 230th anniversary of America's independence, please remember the symbols that are sacred to this country. Fly Old Glory high and show your respect and admiration for this great nation and the values we hold dear. From this experience we have learned that in a big party it is important to have the necessary and often controversial discussions on policy issues such as the health system while in opposition. The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be. Unemployment insurance is a pre-paid vacation for freeloaders. We sincerely ask the Beijing authorities across the Strait to view the election result from a positive perspective, to accept the democratic decision of the Taiwanese people. I don't like poetry that just slaps violent words on a canvas, as it were. If I have a Sunday free, I'll go up the coast and spend some time on the beach. I scuba dive and swim and sail. A lot of the things I like are around the water. I didn't fear failure. I expected failure. I don't think I'll ever escape the fact that I don't belong anywhere in particular. I've often dreamed about going back to Nigeria, but that's a very romantic notion. It's a hideous country to go to in reality. You amaze me. You're 229 years old and that's what you think is funny. |
Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.

Tammy BaldwinAmericans are not saving enough for retirement. I find it greatly disturbing that the Bush administration has used political and religious ideologies to influence national policy on science and medicine. In my grandfather's lab, scientists did independent research, and peers reviewed and commented on its merits. Politics, he taught me, had no place in the scientific process. Our constitutional liberties shall not be sacrificed in our search for greater security, for that is what our enemies and all enemies of freedom and democracy hope to achieve. The U.S. routinely ranks lower than other countries in health outcomes such as infant mortality. |
