So it's a drag that we're not allowed to age. My husband thinks he's compromising if we have one cook instead of three. When you are not practicing, remember somewhere someone is practicing, and when you meet him, he will win. If society will not admit of woman's free development, then society must be remodeled. I love to read. I love to stretch. In the morning, I get up, and if I'm not in a hurry, I will lie on the floor on a rug, look through some books and magazines, and maybe listen to music and try to do stretching exercises to tune up. To conquer nature is, in effect, to remove all natural barriers and human norms and to substitute artificial, fabricated equivalents for natural processes. There is no consensus, there is no homogeneity, there is no truth. A fanatic is a man that does what he thinks the Lord would do if He knew the facts of the case. Well, I've thought many times when my career was in the toilet, that I was going to have to seriously consider getting another job, I don't know what I'd do. I've always found it easy and natural and, more importantly, necessary to articulate thoughts and feelings, and fierce emotions, through the written word. Fantasy and horror came to me when I was very young. Surely the only sound foundation for a civilization is a sound state of mind. There is much good luck in the world, but it is luck. We are none of us safe. We are children, playing or quarrelling on the line. Memory is the treasure house of the mind wherein the monuments thereof are kept and preserved. I want to do a musical movie. Like Evita, but with good music. Any dog, you put him in the corner, no matter if they're vicious or not, they're going to bite back. The Doors were successful. It was Jim Morrison as the centre and the figure and the spokesman, the figurehead, but we were all into the same thing. That's why we were a band. I'll never be mistaken for Pat Boone. Our chief defect is that we are more given to talking about things than to doing them. How could you have had such a wonderful life as me if there wasn't a God directing? There's many a boy here today who looks on war as all glory but it is all hell. I have often wished I had time to cultivate modesty... but I am too busy thinking about myself. Like life itself my stories have no point and get absolutely nowhere. Artists are expected to fit into fraudulent categories. I never wanted to limit myself to just impressions. I wanted to branch out and develop other parts of my game. The timid man calls himself cautious, the sordid man thrifty. Narcissism and the Confederate dead cannot be connected logically, or even historically; even were the connection an historical fact, they would not stand connected as art, for no one experiences raw history. If a man carries his horse out of a slave State into a free one, be does not lose his property interest in him; but if he carries his slave into a free State, the law makes him free. I did LSD in the hospital, never on my own. I did it in a controlled environment to try to find things out about myself. A psychiatrist told me I should take some LSD trips.
